Three SEMA-Bound Ford Explorers Set Up for Style, Not Soccer Practice

Three SEMA-Bound Ford Explorers Set Up for Style, Not Soccer Practice:

Ford always has a ton of show cars on hand at SEMA, and this year’s no different. As was the case last year, shuffled in among the tuned Mustangs, Focuses, Fiestas, and F-series pickups will be a handful of customized Ford Explorers.

2011 Explorer by DSO Eyewear

The DSO Explorer (pictured above) is almost plain in comparison to its SEMA brethren. The exterior combines Pearl Tri-Coat White paint with black chrome trim and custom LED headlamps. The white-on-black treatment really highlights the Explorer’s “wraparound” front and side glass, giving a floating appearance to the roof. The most notable items, really, are the four giant, 24-inch chrome wheels. The DSO’s interior is upholstered in dark Katzkin Midnight Tuscany leather with perforated suede accents.

2011 Ford Explorer by Stitchcraft Interiors

Stitchcraft Interiors is known for—shocker—its custom-car interiors, but the exterior of the firm’s SEMA Explorer looks to have received just as extensive an overhaul. The Stitchcraft Explorer has a menacing two-tone paint job with dark gray and orange accent graphics, hood vents, and big, multi-piece-look wheels. Inside, Alcantara covers the seats and door panels, and the audio system has been upgraded with Orion Car Audio amplifiers, speakers, and wiring.

2011 Explorer by Tjin Edition

Tjin Edition’s Explorer is the only one here with sporting intentions, and as such its cosmetic upgrades are minor compared with the stuff you can’t see. Tjin installed larger Baer brakes and an Eibach suspension (which fall on the good side of the performance equation) and 24-inch wheels wrapped in low-profile tires (which, uh, don’t). Aside from a custom paint job and the fitment of LED headlights, not much else was done to the Explorer’s exterior. Inside, there’s black leather upholstery with orange stitching and upgraded audio.
