On Monday we presented this week’s shifter and asked you to identify the make and model of the vehicle from whence it came. The first commenter to correctly identify it as a 1971 Mazda RX-2 was MazdaP5, who obviously is a huge Lincoln fan. (We kid.) MazdaP5 will receive a Save the Manuals button and sticker as a reward.
The RX-2 pictured here is from our May 1971 issue, which also contained our first drive of the classic V-12 Jaguar E-type. Unlike the E-type, or anything else in the issue, the RX-2 was powered by a rotary engine. The RX-2’s two-rotor engine produced 120 hp and 110 lb-ft of torque from a scant 0.6 liter of displacement. With only 2273 pounds to move around, performance was pretty lively.
