Let’s say you are looking for a smartphone but think iPhones are a bit too artsy and droids should only belong to Luke Skywalker. What’s left? How about a Blackberry? Sure their app store is about as extensive as the Blu-ray list at a Redbox movie rental kiosk, but their keyboard is still hands-down the typing bees-knees. Or is it bees-fingers?
Whatever the case, if you’re still stuck on Blackberry, Porsche has an option to keep your mobile styling en vogue: the P’9981. Finessed by Porsche Design, the P’9981 boasts a forged stainless-steel frame, leather back cover and sleek QWERTY keyboard. Exclusive software to the Porsche Blackberry is its custom user interface, Wikitude World Browser with augmented reality and exclusive PIN to identify you to fellow Blackberry owners as a Porschephile.
Internally, the Porsche Design P’9981 comes built with a 1.2 GHz processor and 8 GB of memory (expandable to 40 GB with micro SD card). The P’9981’s 2.8-in. capacitive touchscreen is crisp (VGA 640×480 resolution) and its 5 MP camera can record HD video (720p). Blackberry 7 is the operating system and the P’9981 will offer Near Field Communication (NFC) support.
Pricing hasn’t been announced for the P’9981 but we surmise it will lie somewhere between the recently introduced Blackberry 9900 and a 2011 Porsche Boxster. We’re leaning toward the former more than the latter. Look for the new smartphone to pop up in Porsche Design stores sometime during the holidays. Hint-hint. For more, visit: www.porsche-design.com.
