Ford Offers 1965 Mustang Body Shell at SEMA

Just in time for this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas, Ford is releasing brand new first-generation Mustang convertible body shells that can be turned into 1964 ½, 1965, or 1966 models. Still wildly popular with collectors – and restoration shops – the task of finding a solid and rust-free early Mustang is becoming much harder. Approximately 1.2 million first-gen Mustangs were produced, though decades of rust can take a heavy toll on any classic. Not only do these new body shells make the hunt for a classic Mustang convertible easier, Ford says the new bodies are even better than the original.

“We use a modern universal automotive-grade steel that is actually stronger than the original, and modern welding techniques along with more welds to strengthen the body,” said Jim Christina, vice president of Dynacorn International, the Ford-approved company building these 1965 Mustangs. The body includes the doors and trunk lid and all the sheet metal from the radiator support to the taillight panel. The hood and front fenders are sold separately. The ’65 Mustang body shell starts at $15,000. Ford will have one of the new shells on display, alongside a fully restored 1965 Mustang, at SEMA from November 1-3.
