It has come to my attention that the Android 4.0.3 official Ice Cream Sandwich update for Samsung Galaxy S 2 has started rolling out. Millions of SGS2 owners will rejoice as they will finally be able to install Google’s latest and greatest Android platform update officially on their smartphones. Previously Samsung Israel had posted on Facebook that the roll out will begin on March 15.
Android 4.0 is the latest platform update to Google’s signature mobile operating system. The Android mobile platform has slowly been gaining traction in the international smartphone market. Google is currently activating over 700,000 new Android devices around the globe daily and this number is not going to shrink any time soon.
The success of this platform is largely attributed to the fact that Google licenses it to almost every manufacturer who wants it. As opposed to iOS which has a very closed and grandfathered approach to almost everything, Google believes in the concept of openness and this very concept has done wonders for the Android platform.
Currently only 1% of all Android devices are compatible with the latest release, Ice Cream Sandwich. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the first smartphone that ships with Android 4.0 by default. The Galaxy S 2 has been a phenomenal hit around the world. The percentage will surely go up when millions of Galaxy S 2 owners download and install official Android 4.0.3 ICS update on their devices.
Samsung will begin the software roll out in a staged manner, as it always does. The company will start in Korea, which is it’s home town. Some handpicked countries in Europe such as Poland, Hungary and Sweden will also receive this update in the first stage of this roll out. Within a week all of Europe will be able to install official Android 4.0.3 ICS update for SGS2. Those who reside in UK will receive this update after 19th of March, the timing will largely depend on individual networks on which these smartphones are tied to.
You will need the official Samsung Kies software to download and install Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich official update on your Samsung Galaxy S 2. The software can be downloaded from here. The steps are relatively simple and don’t require much work to be done by the user. Just download this software and connect your device to the computer. Click the update button, sit back, relax and wait for Kies to finish downloading and installing the latest Android platform update on your smartphone.
