It is the first day of the coolest computing event in Europe the CeBIT Trade Show in Hannover, Germany and one of the first laptops to stand out as looking being a bit special are the two new ultrabooks from Gigabyte.
We say that there are two, because they have two different names, the Gigabyte U2442N and the U2442V but it turns out that the only real difference between these two shiny aluminium cased ultrabooks is actually just the voltage used by in the processor. While the U2442N uses standard voltage, the U2442V gets the ultra low voltage version.
Yet despite that these brand new U2442 ultrabooks are looking good, of course, the problem with a brand new launch is that the details are little thin on ground and as for the prices we cannot even take a guess at this time.
But we do have some idea of what is underneath that shiny exterior of the U2442N and U2442V, starting with the 14 inch HD + LED Back light display with a 1600 x 900 of pixel resolutions and there is a built in web camera and microphone for internet communicating.
Both versions will be powered by the latest 3rd generation Intel Core; there is a choice of the i5 model and the high end i7 ULV processor with a 1.8 Ghz up to 2.6 Ghz available. Graphics will be provided by the NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M GPU this comes with 2 GB VRAM.
The U2442 uses a hybrid style of storage that combines a small amount of solid state drive (SSD) and a choice from 512 GB up to 750 GB of mechanical hard disk drive (HDD).
Other known features are the two fast USB 3.0 ports, two standard USB 2.0 ports, there is a HDMI & VGA output available and there is multi SD card reader.
The starting weight for this ultrabook range starts at around 3.3 pounds and it is slim at 0.7 of an inch at the thinnest point.
