The Taiwan based computer manufacturer MSI have been a bit quiet recently, but it turns out that they are launching a new netbook known as the U180, who said that the netbook market had been killed off by the wave of new tablets hitting the scene?
This netbook follows all of the normal specifications that you would expect to find, such as the 10.1 inch display, 1 GB of RAM and so on. However, this is could be one of the last new netbooks that we see, unless firms like MSI know different.
The U180 comes with the 10.1 inch LCD display with a 1024 x 600 of pixel resolutions and it has a handy 3.0 mega pixel web camera built in. It will be powered by a reasonable 1.60 GHz Intel Atom N2600 processor, which supports an Intel NM10 Express Chipset and there is the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3650 for crisp clean images.
As normal there is just 1 GB of DDR3 800 RAM but this can go up to 2 GB at max and then there is the 320 GB 2.5 in SATA hard disk drive (HDD) for all of the users storage needs. Getting online is simple with the built in wireless LAN 802.11 b/g/n, RJ-45 LAN and there is even Bluetooth 3.0 + HS installed.
Other features are the two USB 2.0 ports, a very useful HDMI port and a 2 in 1 (SD / MMC) card reader. The netbook measures 21.26 mm (H) x 263 mm (W) 186 mm (D) and it will weigh in at just 1.0 kilos with the 3 cell lithium ion 2200MAh battery pack installed that according to MSI offers the user up to 3.5 hours power.
The MSI U180 netbook is about to go on sale in Japan with a starting price of around $380.
