The Australian based computer maker Pioneer Computers has released its second new laptop in as many weeks, but this time they are going after the desktop replacement market with the 17.3 inch DreamBook Power W17R. This will be a fully loaded laptop even at the base level, but it also comes with plenty of options and upgrades that are bound push the $1,200 starting price as high as the buyer will dare to go.
Pioneer Computers have not cut any corners here, as the DreamBook Power W17R comes with Intel and Nvidia support to make this a very interesting prospect for the office, it’s not really a gamers or even student laptop, this has to be considered for business users and it should do a good job in the that sector, despite the price.
The DreamBook Power W17R comes with a 17.3 inch FHD 16:9 crystal bright screen with a 1920 X 1080 of pixel resolutions and there is the built in 2.0 mega pixel video camera, which is handy for meetings etc.
There is a choice of processor from the 2nd and 3rd generation Intel Core i7, i5 and i3 processors with Duo Quad Core options supporting the 3rd generation Intel HM77 Chipset and the graphics have the nVIDIA GeForce GTX 650M 1 GB graphics card with Optimus Technology.
It has a Dual channel of DDR3 Expandable memory up to 8 GB but this will depend on the 2 GB or 4 GB SODIMM module chosen. The choices do not stop there as there can be two 2.5 inch hard disk drive (HDD) or the buyer may choose the hybrid 12.7 mm hard disk drive (HDD) up to 1 TB with a solid state drive (SSD) up to 256 GB.
Connectivity comes from three fast USB 3.0 ports with eSATA port, a single standard USB 2.0 port, an HDMI 1.4a output port (with HDCP) and there is an external VGA port. While for networking it uses the built in 10/100/1000 Mb Base-TX Ethernet LAN and the Intel Centrino Full size Mini Card module.
This is quite a large machine measuring 413 mm (W) x 277.5 mm (D) x 17.1 to 41.5 mm (H) and it weighs in at 3.2 kilos with the six cell Smart Lithium-Ion 62.16WH battery pack installed that Pioneer Computers claimed should be good for up to four and half hours of power, which is not bad for a big computer although it will depend on what the computer is doing.
The DreamBook Power W17R is ready for pre-order with a starting price of $1,200
