Apple makes some amazing products. They’re known all around the world for their smartphones, tablets, desktop as well as laptop computers. The Macbook product line up is amazing to say the least. These laptop computers are loved by technology aficionados all around the globe. However it seems that Apple just might discontinue the 17 inch Macbook Pro model. This decision is possibly based on the weakening sales of this particular Macbook Pro model.
This news tip comes courtesy of well known research analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He has a very good track record when it comes to predictions about Mac. Has has previously given out accurate and legitimate information regarding such products. Now he works for KGI Securities. Today he published a new report in which he claims that Apple is preparing to discontinue 17 inch Macbook Pro. The sole reason for this decision is low sales of said model.
Excerpt from his report: “While adding new products, Apple is likely to stop making the 17” MacBook Pro this year due to falling shipments, in order to maintain a lean product line strategy. We also predict Apple will roll out a fully new MacBook model in early 3Q12, boasting strong performance and easy carry-ability by combining the advantages of MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.”
Ming-Chi’s report actually makes sense, and it comes at a time when sources familiar with the supply chain reveal that Apple is working on an entirely new Macbook Air model. Apple is also rumoured to be entirely revamping the whole Macbook Air and Macbook Pro models. The company is also said to be working on notebooks that will offer more portability like the Air but will also offer superior performance like the Pro.
Last month I reported that Apple is going to launch a new revamped 13 inch Macbook Pro as well as a new 15 inch one. These notebooks will have Intel’s latest Ivy Bridge processors that were launched yesterday. It is possible that the 15 inch Macbook Air will be the device that phases out 17 inch Macbook Pro. Currently the Macbook Air is only available in 11 and 13 inch variants.
In the start of this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the company will release mind blowing products in 2012. With Apple, it is hard to doubt such a statement as they usually do release mind blowing products. One of the most anxiously awaited products of 2012 is Apple’s next generation iPhone. However it will definitely be interesting to see what Apple is planning to do with it’s notebook line up.
