Ford’s Australian branch and its cohorts in its in-house tuning division Ford Performance Vehicles have just raised the collective heart rate of the Car and Driver office by confirming production of a special-edition 449-hp Falcon sedan called the FPV GT Black. (For those not familiar with the Falcon, it’s Ford’s rear-wheel-drive wonder from down under, and we want it so desperately we added it to our 2011 Best Foreign Cars We Want.)
As its name implies, the FPV GT Black is a very black sedan; it sports black “Silhouette” paint, black 19-inch wheels, and blacked-out trim. To further prove its dedication to the black theme, Ford even blackened the lug nuts and exhaust tips. The folks at FPV threw some matte black stripes onto the sides of the body, the hood, and the rear spoiler. The only splashes of color on the exterior are the car’s striking red Brembo brake calipers, red taillight lenses, and amber front signal lamps. It should be noted that the lighting elements’ lenses have been tinted, too.
The GT Black has the necessary go to match its bad show, too. Based on the equally mean-sounding Boss GT, the Black inherits that car’s 449-hp, supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine. A variant of the 5.0 is found in our Mustang GT, but FPV thoroughly worked over the aluminum V-8 for Australian performance duty. Of course, a manual transmission is available, and comes with—you guessed it—a unique black shift knob. The rest of the interior is appropriately darkened, and features black leather seats and black trim. Ford of Australia will build just 125 FPV GT Black editions, and each car will get a unique badge and certificate of authenticity.
