The shadows are long, the vintage Porsches are being loaded back into their trailers for transport back home, and the last race of the weekend, the hard-fought Rennsport Reunion Cup, is still on the track. Before long, the sounds of Porsche flat-4s and flat-6s and flat-8s and V-8s will be gone from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
All told, Rennsport Reunion IV was a huge success, as much fun for the participants as it was for the fans. Seeing all the Porsche driving (and engineering) talent in one place was an unreal treat. What’s more, I’m sure everybody will look back on the event and be glad it was held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, one of America’s great tracks.
And speaking of looking back, I’ll leave you with a photo of a Porsche 917, which was run by David Piper at Le Mans in 1970. Check out how he was able to look back on traffic! The chrome rearview mirror is mounted on top of the cockpit, and a cutout allows the driver to look up and see the cars he just passed. Very cool!
