Dell shows off the XPS 13

Dell shows off the XPS 13:

Dell has launched its first ultrabook; they have named it the XPS 13, not to be confused with the XPS Studio 13, which is different. However, this new step into the world of the ultrabook is a clever move for Dell considering that they recently announced the discontinuation of the Dell Mini range netbooks.

This ultrabook is smooth and makes use of the case size to install a thirteen inch display into a small space leaving a bezel around the outside. The base unit is priced at around $999, but as Dell offer, a menu of options and upgrades this starting price can easily climb very rapidly.

This new thin and light laptop from Dell will have a thirteen inch display using a borderless design allowing for a smaller screen bezel and edge-to-edge Corning Gorilla Glass. It will be powered by the Intel Core i3 processor but can be upgraded to either a Core i5 and Core i7 processor, while the graphics come from the Intel HD 3000 graphics card.

Other cool features of the XPS 13 are the back lit keyboard, a glass touchpad and a smart looking carbon fibre finish. Connectivity employs a superfast USB 3.0 port, a standard USB 2.0 port and there is a mini DisplayPort too. According to Dell the 47 Whr battery should be good for up to eight hours of use, but that would depend on how they define use. Finally, this laptop measures 12.4 inches x 8.1 inches x 0.71 to 0.24 inches and weighs in at just under three pounds.

This cool new XPS 13 ultrabook from Dell will be going on sale at some point in February and will have a starting price of around $1,000.
