The newly updated version of the Samsung Chromebook nearly went completely unnoticed at the CES 2012 event in Las Vegas last week; it was almost as if Samsung wanted to keep it all low key for some reason or another.
Anyway, the series 5 version has a slightly better look, a more powerful processor and well that would seem to be more or less it, so it is no wonder that Samsung did not make a big song and dance about the new improved version of the Chromebook, because they would not have had much to say about it.
So what exactly have Samsung done to update the series 5 Chromebook? It seems that anyone looking for some major changes might be disappointed, because there is little to report and that is slightly disappointing.
This is what we know, the first thing that is noticeable is actually on the outside the Chromebook top case, it is slightly different with the logo being placed in less obvious position.
There is the normal 12.1 inch 300 nit LED (WXGA) display in matte only it seems, with a 1280 x 800 of pixel resolution and the built in web camera remains too, which is a relief.
The updated version will be powered by an Intel Celeron processor instead of the Intel Atom processor that is currently in use. It will still have a memory of just 2 GB of RAM and offer a reasonable 16 GB of flash storage, which is the same as the current model.
According to Samsung it will be going on sale sometime during the second quarter of the year and will be priced at $400 for the Wi-Fi only version, while the 3G model will be slightly more expensive at $450, naturally there will be deals with phone providers, but the price is not likely to be effected that much.
