EICMA 2011: Ducati Panigale 1199, queen of the show

EICMA 2011: Ducati Panigale 1199, queen of the show:

EICMA 2011: Ducati Panigale 1199, queen of the showYes, it is she the queen of EICMA 2011. The sport, which marks a turning point. The birth of a new generation: Ducati Panigale 1199. Never has a twin-cylinder Ducati was able to move us in this manner.

Now, let’s face it, we are looking for perfection (Nippon dare say) of the cylinder desmodromic made in Bologna. Compact, essential and beautiful.

The old engine, the one that equipped the 1198, was only the angle of the cylinder, L-90, and desmodromic. Everything else is completely new. An engine-square radiating the beauty of 195 hp: record for a twin.

The bike weighs only 188 kg with all liquids, including 17 liters of capacity of the new tank, which by itself is a work of art forms and materials used (it is completely made of aluminum). And then the frame, which is also the airbox, a solution cast aluminum monocoque. Small, bare-bones, anchored to the top of the engine: the true bearing element on which it is also bolted to the swingarm. The distribution is obtained which is perfect for driving on the track: 52% on the front, 48% behind.

Technical solutions, the indigestible Valentino Rossi during the 2011, translated from the prototype directly involved in the MotoGP World Championship, but that of a Superbike, less extreme, critical and sophisticated to be developed, should lead to good results.

Even the “electronic means” Panigale not joking at all: Bosch ABS signed, electronic gear, traction control, engine brake control, engine braking control under braking and, last but not least, Öhlins suspension (NIX30 fork with 43 mm diameter TTX36 front and rear), both equipped with the DES (Ducati Electronic Suspension), which allows the electronically controlled compression and rebound. Only the preload remains manual.

And if the electronic equipment and technology were not enough, the 1199 will delight you with an instrumentation TFT (Thin Film Transistor) where, in the track mode, you can use a time recording system that uses GPS to get real and lap times that split the thousandth of a second.

Finally, the Panigale, available in two versions (Standard or S), Pirelli tires designed for this purpose. These are the 2012 New Diablo Supercorsa bi-compound in the sizes 120/70 ZR17 front and 200/55 x ZR17 at the rear, the widest ever for a Ducati Superbike road.
